Men's soccer loses in overtime to Allegheny in day two of Doug May Memorial Tournament

ROCHESTER, NY -- Daniel Szekely scored in the 96th minute giving Allegheny College (1-1-0) a 2-1 win over RIT (0-1-1) on warm and sunny Saturday afternoon at Tiger Stadium on the campus of RIT on day two of the 2014 Doug May Memorial Tournament. Connor Wesch (Massapequa, NY/Kellenberg) scored for the Tigers in the 38th minute.

Shots were 10-9 in favor of RIT, while the Tigers took four corner kicks to two for the Gators. Jake Pugliese picked up the win in net for Allegheny making four saves. Freshman Bailey Reid (Lockport, NY/Lockport) took the loss for RIT, making four saves.

Dave Boselli (Chadds Ford, PA/Garnet Valley) had RIT's first good scoring chance in the 30th minute when he rifled a shot from distance that appeared to be heading for the far corner. However, Pugliese made the diving stop keeping the game scoreless.

RIT took a 1-0 in the 38th minute when Connor Wesch (Massapequa, NY/Kellenberg) took a feed from Dean Kouroupas (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) and scored his first collegiate goal. Kouroupas played a nice through-ball to Wesch who curved a shot around a diving Pugliese and into the far right corner.

In the second half, RIT generated several scoring chances, but could not break through. In the 68th minute, Reuben Marquez fired a shot on goal that Pugliese saved. The rebound came to Wesch who fired a shot that hit the post and bounced out of danger.

With five minutes to play in regulation, Allegheny kept the pressure on the RIT defense. Thomas Richter had a diving header off a service from Tolassa Hassan that Reid made the great diving save on, keeping RIT's lead in tact. llegheny outshot RIT 7-5 in the second half

The Gators finally broke through in the 90th minute when Cameron Olson scored off a loose ball inside the Tigers penalty area, tying the game at 1-1.

Allegheny took the momentum of the late goal into the overtime. In the 96th minute, Hassan sent another service into the RIT area that Szekely ran onto and scored the diving header for the game winner.

RIT returns to action next weekend when the Tigers face SUNY Oneonta on Oneonta, N.Y. at the 2014 Mayor's Cup. Kick-off is at 4 p.m.
