Box Score ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's soccer team (0-0-1) began the 2014 season with a 2-2 tie versus Centenary (0-0-1) in the 11th Annual Doug May Memorial Tournament on a sunny Tiger Stadium on Friday afternoon.

The Tigers led 1-0 at the half, fell behind 2-1 midway through the second half, but battled back to tie the game at 2-2 late in regulation, sending the game to overtime.

"I liked how we fought back after going down," said RIT head coach Bill Garno. "We created some chances, just couldn't finish. We have a young team and they battled the whole game."

Rueben Marquez (Williamson, NY/Williamson) and Geno Rocco (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) each scored for the Tigers, while Abiodun Lawal and Luis Marin tallied for the Cyclones.

Shots were 21-5 in favor of RIT, who fired 11 corner kicks to seven for Centenary. Jesse Goleman made nine saves in net for the Cyclones, while Bailey Reid (Lockport, NY/Lockport) made two stops in his first collegiate start for RIT.

Marquez gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead on his first goal of the season in the 36th minute. Danny Bloshkin (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) fired a service into the Centenary penalty area that Marquez gathered and fired into the low left corner.

Brian Kane (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport) had a chance late in the first half on a blast from 20-yard out that Goleman tipped just wide with a sprawling save.

Centenary tied the score with a goal in the 55th minute when Lawal scored off an assist from Magno Franco who hit a nice through-ball to Lawal and he tapped the ball passed a diving Reid into the RIT goal.

The Cyclones took the lead in the 74th minute when Luis Marin tucked a goal in off a free kick from Sebastian Castillo, giving Centenary a 2-1 lead.

RIT picked the pressure up after the goal and created several good scoring chances. Bloshkin fired a free kick from 20 yards out that deflected just wide of the net with a little less than 14 minute to play. With a little over five minutes to play, freshman Mike Reverdatto (Bethlehem, NY/Bethlehem) sent a service into the box off a free kick that Rocco ran onto and headed into the net for his first goal of the season, tying the game at 2-2.

With just two minutes to play in regulation, Bloshkin fired a service into the Centenary penalty area that Dave Boselli (Chadds Ford, PA/Garnet Valley) got a head on. Goleman was able to dive at the last second and make the save.

RIT had a couple good chances in each of the overtime sessions, but couldn't score. The Tigers will face Allegheny College tomorrow afternoon at 5 p.m. in day two of the Doug May Memorial Tournament at Tiger Stadium.
