Women's lacrosse goes on the road and beats Bard in convincing fashion



ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY -- The RIT (5-9, 2-6 Liberty League) women's lacrosse team hit the road Friday afternoon beating Bard College (3-11, 0-8 Liberty League) 17-3. The win snaps a six-game losing streak for the Tigers. In all, nine different Tigers scored goals on Friday.

Sage Sarkis (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) led RIT with four goals, while Ashleigh Caruso (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), Corrina Mandell (Corning, NY/Corning East) and Carly Payerl (Kitchener, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic) each scored three goals. Mandell finished with a career-high seven points, dishing out four assists to go along with her three goals. Eva D'Ignazio (Swarthmore, PA/The Agnes Irwin School), Holly Leone (Centerport, NY/Harborfields), Valerie Burger (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) and Mariah Hettel (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) also tallied goals for the Tigers. Burger and D'Ignazio tallied their first collegiate goals.

Shots were 38-17 in favor of RIT. The Tigers grabbed 32 ground balls to 25 for the Raptors, while Bard won 12 draw controls to 10 for RIT. Each team caused 13 turnovers. Caitlin Conway (Landisville, PA/Hempfield) got the win in net for RIT, making four saves. Elizabeth Hughes (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) played the final 22:22, making five saves.

RIT jumped out to a 5-0 lead less than eight minutes into the first half on goals from Payerl, Leone, Mandell and Sarkis, who had two in the opening stretch.

Stephanie LaMont got Bard on the board with 13:10 to play in the first half off a feed from Lizzy Chemel, cutting RIT's lead to 5-1.

Goals from Payerl, Mandell and Hettel increased RIT's lead to 8-1 late in the first half. Mandell's goal was a man-up goal off a feed from Nicole Bingo (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) for her second tally of the half. Brianna Bean scored with 1:51 to play off an assist from Joanna Regan, making it 8-2 RIT at the half.

The Tigers opened the second half much the same way they opened the first, with a five-goal run. Sarkis opened the second half scoring with her third of the contest, givng RIT a 9-2 lead. Sarkis assisted on goals by Mandell and Payerl at 22:52 and 22:22 respectively as the Tigers increased their lead to 11-2.

Caruso tallied two straight goals, her first two of the contest, to make it 13-2 RIT with 19:55 to play in regulation. Bean scored off a feed from Regan at 15:47 of the second half, making it 13-3 RIT. Consecutive goals from Sarkis, D'Ignazio, Caruso and Berger closed out the scoring, making it a 17-3 final.

The 17 goals scored by RIT is a season high for the Tigers. RIT is now 3-0 all-time against the Raptors.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, April 26 when they wrap up the regular season at Vassar College. Game time is 2 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
