Women's tennis battles hard in 6-3 loss at Roberts Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT women's tennis team (1-7) wrapped up the regular season by falling on the road to local foe Roberts Wesleyan College (15-5) in a non-conference contest on Thursday afternoon.

The Redhawks won two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into the singles contests. The duo of Maite Vera Antelo (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/Mayor San Loranzo) and Gianna Heaviland (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito) garnered an 8-6 win to get RIT on the board.

Vera Antelo would also pick up a win at second singles, taking down Maria Jimenez, 6-1, 6-3. At first singles, Sara Bjork (Gansevoort, NY/Saratoga Springs) defeated Tina Miller, 6-1 in the first set before falling 7-6 in set number two. In the tiebreaker, Bjork came out on top, 10-7 to win the match.

The Tigers head to St. Lawrence this weekend for the Liberty League Championships. RIT, seeded seventh, will face No. 2 seed Vassar in the first round on Saturday at 2 p.m.
