ROCHESTER, NY – The No. 1 RIT men's lacrosse team will play its second game of the season at The Carrier Dome on the campus of Syracuse University on Wednesday, March 12 at 7 p.m. versus No. 2 SUNY Cortland. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for students available at the Carrier Dome box office.
The Tigers, ranked No. 1 in this week's USILA Division III Coaches Poll, are 3-0 on the season after an 18-11 win over SUNY Brockport last Wednesday. SUNY Cortland, ranked second in this week's coaches poll, is 4-0 on the season after a 10-5 win over Stevens Tech last Saturday in Uniondale, N.Y. This will be the second time this season the top two teams in Division III have faced off. RIT, ranked second in DIII, beat No.1 Stevenson, 15-14 in overtime at the Carrier Dome back on Feb. 22.
Wednesday is a rematch of the 2013 NCAA Division III National Semifinals that RIT won 10-9 in overtime on May 19 on
Allister Warren (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern Collegiate Institute)'s goal off the "hidden ball trick". RIT is 14-20 all time versus Cortland, with five of the last six games being decided by one goal.
RIT comes into Wednesday averaging 16.00 goals per game, while allowing 12.00 goals per contest. Junior
Casey Jackson (Victoria, BC/Claremont) leads the team in scoring with 15 points on 11 goals and four assists, tallying six goals in the win over Brockport last Wednesday.
Jack Krzyston (Bedford, NH/Bishop Guertin) (4g, 7a) and
Allister Warren (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern Collegiate Institute) (3g, 8a) are tied for second on the team with 11 points apiece.
Ryan Lee (Sharon, Ontario/The Hill Academy) is fourth with 10 points, while
Kyle Aquin (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Jean De Brebeuf) and
Taylor Wisman (Seattle, WA/Inglemoor) are tied for fifth with seven points apiece.
Pat Johnston (Norwell, MA/Norwell) has two wins in net for RIT, while
Anthony DeLeo (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) has a victory.
Cortland comes into Wednesday averaging 10.25 goals per game, while allowing 4.50 goals per game. Nate Gabarino leads the team in scoring with 13 points on eight goals and five assists. Zach Hopps is second with nine points, while Joe Slavik and Benjamin Dunlavey are tied for third with six points apiece. Scott Tota is 4-0 in net for the Red Dragons with a 4.63 goals against average and .654 save percentage.
