Wrestling wraps up regular season by going 2-1 at Si Ostrach Meet

CLEVELAND, OH -
The RIT wrestling team (6-9) wrapped up the 2013-14  regular season by going 2-1 at the Si Ostrach Meet on Saturday afternoon at Case Western Reserve University. The Tigers opened by falling to Thiel by a score of 35-12, then rebounded to defeat host Case Western, 26-18, and Muskingum, 45-9.

Both Rory Bruce (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) and Nicholas Greenquist (Spring Lake, NJ/St. Rose) went 3-0 on the afternoon for the Tigers. At 133 lbs., Bruce opened with a 7-3 win over Nick Sutton of Thiel, then defeated Jeff Gould of Case Western by technical fall, 16-0. He won his last match of the day by forfeit to improve to 15-7 in 2013-14. At 165 lbs., Greenquist defeated Sean Byham of Thiel by injury default and secured a pin in 1:06 over Noah Feldstein of Case Western, before winning his last match against Muskingum by forfeit to improve to 20-7 this season.

Tyler Brent (Gasport, NY/Royalton-Hartland) recorded a pin in 3:45 over Andrew Brunk of Case Western and earned a win via forfeit against Muskingum to improve to 18-13 at 184 lbs. this season. Jake Sepor (Stafford, NY/Pavilion) picked up a pair of wins on the afternoon at 141 lbs., both by 4-2 scores to improve to 13-18 in 2013-14. Brad Mayville (Marion, NY/Wayne) recorded a pin over Zach Cantrell of Muskingum at 149 lbs. to earn  his 27th victory of the season.

Andrew Flanagan (Holley, NY/Holley), Ethan Testa (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas), Nick Fisk (Las Cruces, NM/Mayfield), and Eddie McBride (Germantown, MD/Northwest) all picked up forfeit wins.

The oprning match was tied at 6-6 before Thiel won six of the last seven matches to pull away. Case Western led RIT 18-11 before RIT won the last three matches for the 26-18 victory. The Tigers won the first eight matches agiainst Muskingum, six via forfeit en route to the win.

RIT moves to the postseason next weekend, competing at the 2014 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Qualifier at York College (Pa.) which gets underway at 9 a.m. on Sunday, March 2.
