Men's basketball ends season with 91-87 win at Skidmore; Tigers fiinish with 16-9 record



SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- The RIT (16-9, 10-6 Liberty League) men's basketball team closed out the 2013-14 season with an impressive 91-87 win at Skidmore College Saturday afternoon. The Tigers completed the season sweep of the Thoroughbreds, but narrowly missed out on making the Liberty League Tournament by virtue of a Clarkson win over Vassar this afternoon.

JP Reagan (Cortland, NY/Cortland) was one of five players to score in double figures for the Tigers, tallying 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the floor. He grabbed 11 rebounds, dished out eight assists and had a block and a steal.

Gabe Nicasio (Essex Junction, VT/Essex) and Kamron Davis (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) each scored 14 points, while Brendan Reinert (Wheatfield, NY/Starpoint) scored 11 and Mitch Herman (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) added 10.

RIT led 41-34 with 4:53 to play in the first half, but Skidmore outscored the Tigers 13-5 over the final minutes to take a 47-46 lead into halftime.

The Tigers shot 51.9 percent from the floor in the first half on 14-of-27 shooting, including 8-of-13 from behind the arc. Reagan paced RIT with 15 first-half points.

Skidmore built its lead to six points early in the second half on a layup by Aldin Medunjanin with 15:27 to play. The Thorughbreds maintained that lead through the midway point of the half when RIT went on a run.

An 8-2 run by the Tigers over a two minute stretch, tied the game at 67-67 on a free throw by Davis with 8:20 to play.

RIT ballooned the lead to 10 points on Davis' dunk with 1:29 to play, giving the Tigers an 87-77 lead.

Skidmore made it tight down the stretch, cutting RIT's lead to six points on a three pointer by Tanner Brooks, who finished with a game-high 38 points for the Throughbreds.

Skidmore got no closer than four points as time ran out.

RIT shot 50.9 percent from the floor on 29-of-57 shooting. The Tigers went 14-of-21 from behind the arc and made 19-of-27 free throws.

The Tigers finished with a 16-9 record, going 10-6 in Liberty League play. RIT finished in a four-way tie for second place in the league standings, but lost out on all tiebreakers.
