ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (14-8, 8-5 Liberty League) men's basketball team had its three-game winning streak snapped with a 76-68 loss to St. Lawrence University (8-13, 4-8 Liberty League) Friday evening on the floor of Clark Gym.
Trailing 41-35 at the half, RIT opened the second half with a 14-2 run, taking a 49-43 lead on a three pointer by
Gabe Nicasio (Essex Junction, VT/Essex). The Tigers led until the 10:36 mark of the second half when Al Jones hit a jumper giving the Saints a 55-53 lead.
JP Reagan (Cortland, NY/Cortland) answered back for RIT, tying the score at 63-63 with 6:20 to play on a three pointer off an assist from Nicasio.
Kieran Miller gave the Saints a 67-64 lead with 3:25 to play with his three pointer off an assist from Brady Condlin.
RIT answered with four straight points, taking a 68-67 lead on a layup by
Miguel Lopez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) with 1:58 to play. He scored all four points in the run and finished with 11 points.
The Tigers went scoreless over the final 1:58 as St. Lawrence scored the final nine points of the game, including clutch free throws down the stretch from Miller and Janpeter Brase to seal the victory.
St. Lawrence dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Tigers 41-23, scoring 16 second-chance points off of 13 offensive rebounds.
Kyle Edwards led the Saints with 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Miller added 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Condlin and Janpeter Brase each scored 11 points.
Reagan led RIT with 17 points. Nicasio scored 16 points and had six assists, while
Mitch Herman (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) and Lopez each scored 11 points.
RIT shot 42.9 percent from floor on 27-of-63 shooting. The Tigers went 11-of-32 from behind the arc and were 3-of-6 from the foul line.
St. Lawrence shot 50.0 percent from the floor on 26-of-52 shooting. The Saints went 5-of-14 from behind the arc and shot 19-of-20 from the foul line.
The Tigers host Clarkson University on Saturday, February 15 at 4 p.m. on the floor of Clark Gym. RIT will honor seniors
