RIT men's soccer falls 1-0 to SUNY Geneseo on blustery day

ROCHESTER, NY- The RIT men's soccer team (4-7-1) fell 1-0 to SUNY Geneseo (7-5-1) on a cool, windy Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks while the Knights led in shots, 14-13. Mark Reeves (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) took the loss in goal for RIT, making four saves. Logan Calvey picked up the win in the net for Geneseo, also making four saves.

RIT had a quick chance just five minutes into the game. Danny Bloshkin (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) took a shot that created a rebound opportunity on an open net. Dean Kouroupas (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) was able to get a foot on the ball for a shot but the Knights' defense collapsed and Brad Campion made the save.

Geneseo broke through in the 36th minute off of a breakaway ball. Stanley Egbuchula got past Reeves off of a through ball into the middle and took a shot that was saved off the line by Michael Vincelli (Hilton, NY/Hilton). Egbuchula followed up his own rebound into the net.

The Tigers had several chances in the second half. Scott Fishel (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) placed a header on net off of a corner kick from Bloshkin that Calvey saved.

RIT's best opportunity came in the 69th minute from a long ball from Fishel to Geno Rocco (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) who crossed the ball perfectly into the middle on a break up the left side. Kurt Spiegel (Monroe, NY/Monroe Woodbury) headed a hard shot that went just wide.

Rueben Marquez (Williamson, NY/Williamson) blasted a shot from distance for the Tigers in the last eight minutes that missed the Geneseo post.

RIT will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. on the pitch of Tiger Stadium to take on St. Lawrence in a Liberty League matchup.
