RIT men's soccer loses 3-1 to St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT (4-8-1, 2-2-0 Liberty League) men's soccer team was defeated by No. 13 St. Lawrence University (10-2-0, 4-0-0 Liberty League) 3-1 in Liberty League action from Tiger Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Tigers, 14-30-2 all time versus the Saints, and have not defeated St. Lawrence since 2005.
 
Shots were 14-5 in favor of St. Lawrence. The Saints took 14 corner kicks to five for the Tigers. Mark Reeves (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) took the loss in net for RIT making seven saves. Sean Houston got the win for the Saints making one save.
 
St. Lawrence took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute when Harry Copeland headed in a shot off a corner kick from Rob Brandell.

The Tigers equalized in the 34th minute when Scott Fishel (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) tapped in a shot off a corner kick from Geno Rocco (Apalachin, NY/Vestal). He sent a service into the Saints penalty area that Fishel circled around and tapped home into the open net for a 1-1 tie. It was his first goal of the season.

Copeland struck again for St. Lawrence just before halftime, tallying in the 44th minute when he headed home a service from Christian Yarros giving the Saints a 2-1 halftime lead.

RIT had a great chance to equalize in the 52nd minute when Bobby Spear (Mount Airy, MD/South Carroll) and Michael Vincelli (Hilton, NY/Hilton) each had chances saved off the line by Saints defenders. Spear fired a shot off a service from Danny Bloshkin (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) that Praveen Balakumara saved off the line. The rebound came to Vincelli who fired a shot blocked away by a St. Lawrence defender.

The Saints made it 3-1 with a goal in the 78th minute. Dan Hunt got credit for the goal when his shot was deflected into the Tigers goal by a RIT defender.
 
RIT had a chance late off a free kick played to Fishel who's volley was headed for the far corner, but Houston came up with the diving save keeping the score 3-1.

RIT returns to action on Friday, October 17 when the Tigers host No. 20 Rensselaer at 4 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
