ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT women's tennis team (0-1) dropped its opening dual match of the 2014 season, falling to SUNY Cortland (7-4) by a score of 7-2 on a breezy, warm, Tuesday afternoon at the RIT Tennis Courts.
Cortland took all three doubles matches by scores of 8-6 before RIT's
Elizabeth McGrail (Rockford, IL/Guilford) defeated Jean Martinez, 6-3, 6-4 at first singles. RIT's
Diane Wang (Ames, IA/Ames) rallied to defeat Shannon Grodotzke at third singles. Wang dropped the first set, 6-1, but took the next two sets, 6-3, 6-3.
"We needed one or two of the doubles matches to go our way, but it was well fought for our first Fall match," said head coack Krystina Bachner.
The Tigers wrap up the Fall season at the New York State Championships, held in Ithaca, N.Y.
