"Overall, I was pleased with our effort versus Hilbert," said RIT head coach
Jim Lodes. "They are a scrappy, relentless team and for the most part we matched their effort. I was also excited that we played many people in this match and they each stepped in and played well."
In the nightcap, RIT fell to Buffalo State in straight sets by scores of 26-24, 25-21, 25-18. Davis led RIT with 24 digs, while Novaes nearly had a triple-double with 10 assists, eight kills, and eight digs, while hitting .350. Szybist slammed 16 kills to go along with 11 digs and two blocks. Dowdy added 23 assists and nine digs, while
Rebecca Bennett (Springfield, PA/Springfield) compiled 11 digs.
"We had stretches of competing versus a very good Buffalo State team," said Lodes. "With that said, we commit too many unforced errors and moments of tentativeness that just hold us back from winning a match of this magnitude. We will have two good opportunities tomorrow to see if we will step up to that challenge."
The Tigers are right back in action on Saturday at the Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational, with matches against Pittsburgh-Bradford at 1 p.m. and host Fredonia at 3 p.m.
