ITHACA, NY -- The RIT (5-11-1) men's soccer team scored two goals in a 38-second span late in the second half to come from behind and beat Ithaca College (4-7-3) 2-1 in non-conference action from Carp Wood Field Wednesday afternoon.
Bobby Spear (Mount Airy, MD/South Carroll) scored with nine minutes to play in the second half, and
Dean Kouroupas (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) tallied the game winner less than a minute later to give the visiting Tigers the win.
Shots were 11-7 in favor of the Tigers who took four corner kicks to just one for the Bombers. Sophomore
Patrick O'Mara (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) picked up his first collegiate win in net for RIT making one save. Jordan Gentile took the loss for Ithaca, making four saves.
After a scoreless first half, the Bombers got on the scoreboard first when Brendon Thompson tallied in the 75th minute. Brandon Glass fed Thompson with a pass and he broke through the RIT defense on the right side and scored with a shot across to the left side.
With nine minutes remaining on the clock, RIT earned a corner kick.
Danny Bloshkin (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) sent in a service that got loose and scrambled around in front of the Ithaca goal. Spear got to the loose ball and scored tying the score at 1-1. It was Spear's first goal in a Tigers uniform.
Just 38 seconds later the Tigers struck again.
Rueben Marquez (Williamson, NY/Williamson) got free on the flank and fired a cross into the Ithaca box. Kouroupas gathered the service and fired into the right corner for his third goal of the season and gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
O'Mara and the RIT defense were able to kill off the clock and earn the win. The win for RIT snapped a five-game winless streak.
RIT closes out the 2014 season this Saturday, Nov. 1 when the Tigers Hobart College at 1 p.m. The Tigers will honor the six members of the class of 2015 as they make their final appearance at Tiger Stadium. RIT will wear commemorative jerseys and have donation stations set up to raise funds for local veterans, veterans returning from active duty and the new up-and-coming RIT Veterans Club.
