ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (5-12-1, 2-6-0 Liberty League) men's soccer team closed out the 2014 season with a 2-1 loss to Hobart College (12-4-3, 4-2-2 Liberty League) on Senior Day at Tiger Stadium Saturday. Junior Geno Rocco (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) tallied the Tigers lone goal off an assist from Rueben Marquez (Williamson, NY/Williamson).

Shots were 19-6 in favor of RIT who took six corner kicks to five for the Statesmen. Patrick O'Mara (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) took the loss in net for RIT making two saves, while Tyler Serafine got the win for Hobart making nine saves.

Hobart had a good chance a little less than 13 minutes into the game when Tyler Terens sent in a deep service that JP White headed on net. RIT defender Tristan Scott (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson)  saved the ball off the line keeping the game scoreless.

That score stood until the 20th minute when White was taken down inside the RIT penalty box. Marco Ronning stepped up from the spot and scored giving the Statesmen a 1-0 lead.

The Hobart goal seemed to fire up the Tigers, who controlled much of the play the remainder of the first half. The Tigers tied the score on Rocco's second goal of the season in the 26th minute. Rueben Marquez (Williamson, NY/Williamson) fed Rocco inside the Hobart penalty box. He took a touch to his right and fired a shot into the low left corner.

With eight minutes to play in the first half, freshman Dean Kouroupas (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) had a header that went just wide of the Statesmen goal, while Brian Kane (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport) had a service into the Hobart box that Michael Vincelli (Hilton, NY/Hilton) headed towards the back post that was just out of the reach of Mike Reverdatto (Bethlehem, NY/Bethlehem) late in the first half.

RIT kept up the momentum after halftime when Danny Bloshkin (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) fired in a service from 45 yards out that was just out of reach of a lunging Rocco who had made the run down the middle. Marquez had a nice run down the left flank in the 60th minute. He sent a service into the box to Kurt Spiegel (Monroe, NY/Monroe Woodbury) who was 1-on-1 with Serafine in front of the Hobart net. Speigel's shot was right at Serafine who made the save keeping the score tied.

Kane had a rip at a shot from 45 yards out in the 65th minute that just missed the top corner of the Hobart cage. With 13:49 to play in regulation, Spiegel had another great chance when his shot from 20 yards out was tipped over the cross-bar by Serafine.

The Statesmen broke the tie in the 86th minute when Marco Ronning sent in a ball off a corner kick. Herod tapped home the loose ball in front of the RIT goal giving the Statesmen a 2-1 lead.

The Tigers had a chance late in regulation off a corner kick. Bloshkin sent the ball in and came out to Scott at the top of the Hobart box. He fired a shot directly at Serafine who made the save and preserve the lead for Hobar.

RIT honored Bloshkin, Dave Boselli (Chadds Ford, PA/Garnet Valley), Rahim, Kane, Spiegel and Vincelli before the game today as they made their final appearance on the field at Tiger Stadium.
