Hayley Cromwell (Cave Creek, AZ/Pinnacle) tallied in the 51st minute to give the RIT women's soccer team (8-3-5) a 1-0 win over SUNY Fredonia in non-conference action at University Stadium on Tuesday. Cromwell scored off an assist in from
Quincey Ornellas (Moorpark, CA/Moorpark), while
Amanda Murray (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) and the Tigers' defense held the Blue Devils to just three shots on net.

Shots were 10-9 in favor of Fredonia State, while RIT took six corner kicks to three for the Blue Devils. Murray picked up her eighth win of the season, while Lindsey Forness took the loss for Fredonia making three saves.

RIT generated two good scoring chances in the first half.
Maxine Culhane (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) sent a floating pass into
Elizabeth May (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) in the 30th minute, who was making the run down the center of the Fredonia penalty box. The pass was just out of a lunging May and cleared away by Forness. Late in the first half, RIT had a free kick from 45 yards out. May ran onto a well placed service, but her shot was deflected away again by Forness.
After halftime, the Tigers had a good chance off a corner. May sent a ball into the Fredonia State penalty area.
Ehlana Gray (Sewickley, PA/Avonworth) had a header that was saved by Forness. The rebound was loose inside the six-yard box before cleared away by the Blue Devils defense.
Moments later, Ornellas sent a great pass into the box that Cromwell fired into the net for her first goal of the season.
The Bllue Devils had a chance in the 73rd minute when Kristie Kleine sent a shot first time on net that Murray measured and saved. The Tigers defense killed off the final 17 minutes for their seventh shut out of the season.

RIT returns to action Saturday, Nov. 1 when the Tigers face No. 8 William Smith in the regular season finale at 1 p.m. on the campus of Hobart and William Smith College. A win would guarantee the Tigers a berth in the Liberty League Tournament.
