ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT (2-1) men's swimming and diving team defeated Alfred University (1-1), 137-106 Saturday afternoon in dual meet action from Judson Pool on the campus of RIT. Six different Tigers picked up wins in individual events, while the Tigers scored at least one point in all 13 events.
John O'Gorman (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) took home a pair of first place finishes Saturday for the Tigers. The sophomore won in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:34.56, and won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:03.81.
The Tigers swept both diving events on Saturday. Senior
John Tellgren (Anoka, MN/Anoka) won the 3-meter diving with a score of 257.50. Ben Hamilton was second on the 3-meter board with a score of 238.50, while
Matt DePalo (Franklin, MA/Xaverian Brothers) was third with a score of 181.40. DePalo won the 1-meter event with a score of 265.60. Tellgren was second in the 1-meter event with a score of 255.90, and Hamilton was third with a score of 151.80.
Other winners included
Joshua Enrico (West Chester, OH/Lakota East) who won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 55.74, and
Matthew Butler (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East) who won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:01.08.
The Tigers swept the top three in the 100-yard backstroke with
Alex Madar (Suffern, NY/Suffern) finishing second in a time of 1:03.50 and
Julius Jeong (Salisbury, MD/Wicomico) was third in a time of 1:04.43.
In relay action, the team of Enrico, Madar,
Justin Morris (Holliston, MA/Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School) and
Derek Brown (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) were second in the 200-yard medley relay finishing in a time of 1:41.30. The team of
Nate Marshall (Waverly, NY/Waverly), Butler,
Matthew Rolleston (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) and
Ryan Leeson (Elma, NY/Iroquois) were third in a time of 1:41.80.
The Tigers closed out the meet finishing second and third in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Brown,
Ryan Facchine (Fairview, PA/Fairview),
Steven Paine (York, PA/Dallastown Area) and Leeson was second in a time of 1:25.59, while the team of Marshall, O'Gorman,
Samuel Shpuntoff (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) and Berus were third in a time of 1:32.65.
RIT return to action next Saturday, Nov. 1 when the Tigers face SUNY Fredonia at 1 p.m. in Fredonia, N.Y.
