SCHENECTADY, NY – The RIT (4-11-1, 2-5-0 Liberty League) men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat to Union College (8-8-1, 2-4-0 Liberty League) in Liberty League action from Schenectady, N.Y. Saturday afternoon. The Tigers fall to 13-7-0 all time versus the Dutchmen and are officially eliminated from Liberty League playoff contention.
Shots were 15-11 in favor of Union, with each team taking four corner kicks.
Patrick O'Mara (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) got the start in net for RIT taking the loss making four saves. Ryan Carter picked up the win for the Dutchmen making seven saves.
After a scoreless first half, Carl Faber had a scoring opportunity but was denied by the post. However, freshman Ethan Strauss was there to knock in the rebound for his fifth goal on the season to give the Dutchmen a 1-0 edge in the 59th minute.
RIT fired seven shots on goal Saturday, but were denied by Carter who turned away everything he saw.
Geno Rocco (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) and
Dean Kouroupas (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) each had two shots on net for RIT, while
Scott Fishel (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) and
Mike Reverdatto (Bethlehem, NY/Bethlehem) each fired a shot on net.
The Tigers wrap up the regular season next week. On Wednesday, Oct. 29, RIT travels to Ithaca College at 3 p.m. in Ithaca, N.Y. The Tigers will host Hobart College next Saturday in the regular season finale at Tiger Stadium. Prior to Saturday's contest, the Tigers will honor its six seniors, as they appear in their final regular season home game at Tiger Stadium.
