TROY, NY – The RIT men's swimming and diving (0-1) team opened up the 2014-15 season by suffering a 174-120 dual meet loss at Rensselaer (1-0) on Saturday afternoon.
Senior
Matt DePalo (Franklin, MA/Xaverian Brothers) placed first in the one-meter diving event scoring 286.20 points. He scored a 271.10 in the three-meter to finish just behind the winner, Miguel Hummel of Rensselaer with a score of 306.65.
RIT took the first and second place spots in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The winning squad was made up of
John O'Gorman (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth),
Ryan Facchine (Fairview, PA/Fairview), Matthew Berus, and
Steven Paine (York, PA/Dallastown Area). The second place relay consisted of
Samuel Shpuntoff (),
Ryan Leeson (Elma, NY/Iroquois),
Derek Brown (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood), and
Austin Hayes (Aurora, OH/Aurora).
O'Gorman set the pace for the 500-meter freestyle with a time of 5:08.61. Hayes finished third in 5:21.71.
RIT took the top three spots in the 200-yard individual medley.
Joshua Enrico () was first in 2:08.68, followed by Justin Moore in second with 2:10.60, and
John Stelmack () in 2:11.32.
Paine finished second in the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle with times of 50.57 and 1:53.16 respectively.
Facchine and Brown both placed second in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.97.
The Tigers will be back in action this Wednesday, Oct. 22 vs. SUNY Oswego at 7 p.m. in Judson Pool.
