Matt DePalo Qualifies for NCAA Diving Regionals, as men's swimming and diving loses to Rochester 178-110

ROCHESTER, NY – Junior diver Matt DePalo (Franklin, MA/Xaverian Brothers) qualified for the NCAA Diving Regional meet, as the RIT mens swimming and diving (4-6) couldn't overcome a strong Rochester (5-5) team in 178-110 loss at Judson Pool on Saturday afternoon.

DePalo came up huge for the Tigers in the diving events, earning first place in both the one-meter and three-meter dives, while qualifying for the NCAA Diving Nationals in the three-meter with a score of 338.40. NCAA Diving Regional will be held at RIT's Judson Pool from Feb. 28-March 1. In the one-meter event DePalo scored a 310.87 to win the event.

The 200-yard Butterfly was the strongest pool event on the day for the Tigers who grabbed the top three spots. Justin Morris (Marlborough, MA/Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School) came in first with a time of 2:03.50, with Corey Birsner (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) following in second and Matt Rolleston in third with times of 2:07.51 and 2:10.41 respectively. RIT also grabbed a first place in the 500-yard freestyle as Steven Paine (York, PA/Dallastown Area) swam a time of 5:00.69 to win the event.

The Tigers will be back in action next Saturay Feb. 1, when they will host Nazareth in their final home meet of the sason starting at 1 p.m.
