WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The RIT wrestling team placed sixth out of eight teams at the 2014 Empire Wrestling Conference Championships held at Lycoming College on Saturday afternoon. RIT finished with 54.5 points, while Ithaca won the meet with 142.5 team points.

Nicholas Greenquist (Spring Lake, NJ/St. Rose)# was RIT's best finisher, placing third at 174 lbs., finishing with a 5-1 record. Greenquist opened the day by defeating Steven Sabella of Ithaca, 12-3. After a 6-5 loss to eventual champion Lou Puca of Cortland, Greenquist breezed through the consolation round, winning his final four matches of the day. He defeated Sabella for the second time in the third place match, winning 15-1.
Freshman #
Jake Sepor (Stafford, NY/Pavilion)# went 4-2 at 141 lbs., placing fourth. Sepor defeated Tyler Aldinger of Alfred State, 9-1 before falling to Nick Wahba of Ithaca. In the consolation rounds, Spor recorded two pins and a win by decision before falling to Caleb Wiley of Lycoming in the third place match.
Freshman #
Andrew Flanagan (Holley, NY/Holley) and senior (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy)Greg Jones (Weare, NH/John Stark)# both finished 2-2 on the afternoon.

Brad Mayville (Marion, NY/Wayne)#, the top-seed at 149 lbs., won his first match of the day before suffering an injury that would knock him out of action for the rest of the championship meet. #
Tory Cain (Ontario, NY/Wayne)# also won his first match at 165 lbs., before suffering an injury that would end his day.
RIT is back in action on Jan. 29, with a dual meet at The College at Brockport, getting underway at 7 p.m.
