Men's basketball struggles offensively in 71-55 loss at Vassar



POUGHKEEPSIE, NY -- The RIT (7-5, 1-2 Liberty League) men's basketball team was defeated 71-55 at Vassar College (10-3, 2-2 Liberty League) in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon.

#JP Reagan (Cortland, NY/Cortland) led RIT with 12 points and four rebounds. (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker)Matt Gundrum (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow)# added nine points, while #Joe Stortini (Red Hook, NY/Loomis Chaffee)# chipped in eight points off the bench for the Tigers who shot 31.3 percent from the floor on 20-of-64 shooting.

RIT led by five early in the first half on a layup by freshman #Sheldon Clay (Detroit, MI/University of Detroit Jesuit)# who finished with five points. Vassar outscored RIT 30-11 over the final 13:32 to lead 38-24 at the break.

The Tigers shot 31 percent from the floor in the first half on 9-of-29 shooting. #Mitch Herman (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder)# and Reagan each scored six points to pace the Tigers in the first half. Clay finished with five.

A 10-2 run by Vassar to start the second half built the Brewers lead to 20 points on a layup by Alex Snyder with 15:10 to play. Curtis Smith led Vassar with 15 points, while Otis Osman added 13 points and Erikson Wasyl and Luka Ladan each scored 10 for the Brewers.

RIT shot 31.3 percent from the floor for the game on 20-of-64 shooting. The Tigers were 4-of-21 from behind the arc and went 11-of-16 from the foul line. Vassar held a 40-34 rebounding edge.

The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, January 21 when RIT hosts Union College in Liberty League action at 7 p.m. on the floor of Clark Gymnasium.
