RIT men's basketball holds off Bard in Liberty League action



ANNONDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY -- The RIT (7-4, 1-1 Liberty League) men's basketball team held off Bard College 55-49 on Friday evening in Liberty League action from Annondale-on-Hudson, N.Y. RIT outscored Bard 6-0 over the final 3:57 of regulation for the win. #Kamron Davis (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham)# led the Tigers with 18 points and 16 rebounds.

RIT led by as many as eight points in the first half, before a late rally by the Raptors cut RIT's lead to 25-23 at the break. The Tigers shot 37.9 percent from the floor in the first half on 11-of-29 shooting. Davis led RIT with seven points, while #JP Reagan (Cortland, NY/Cortland) and Sheldon Clay (Detroit, MI/University of Detroit Jesuit)# each scored five.

Bard opened the second half on an 8-2 run, taking a 31-27 lead on a layup by Brandon Cunningham.

A quick 5-0 burst by RIT gave the Tigers a 32-31 lead with 13:15 to play on a three pointer by #Gabe Nicasio (Essex Junction, VT/Essex)#, who finished with 13 points off the bench.

The Raptors fought back, taking a 41-40 lead with 8:49 to play on a layup by Cunningham off an assist from Alex Fabean-Scotch. Cunningham was one of three Raptors with 10 points on the evening.

Fabean-Scotch's layup with 4:30 to play gave Bard a 49-47 lead. That would be the last points the Raptors would score, as RIT held Bard scoreless over the final 4:30.

RIT scored the final eight points, including four from Davis, to hold off the Raptors 55-49.

The Tigers shot 37.7 percent from floor on 20-of-53 shooting. RIT went 3-for-11 from behind the arc, and were 12-of-18 from the foul line. Davis led RIT with 18 points on 7-of-12 shoooting. He also grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds.

Nicasio finished with 13 points and three assists, while #JP Reagan (Cortland, NY/Cortland)# added 10 points.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, January 18 when the Tigers face Vassar College at 4 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
