GENESEO, NY -- The RIT men's swimming and diving team competed against SUNY Geneseo and SUNY New Paltz over the weekend on the campus of SUNY Geneseo. RIT soundly defeated New Paltz, 226-115, but fell to the hosts 220-135.
In Friday's action, the team of
Matt Berus (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North),
Austin Hayes (Aurora, OH/Aurora),
Scott Farrell (Buffalo, NY/North Tonawanda) and
Justin Morris (Marlborough, MA/Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School) placed third in the 800-yard freestyle realy, finishing in a time of 7:32.35.
Morris, Farrell,
Ryan Facchine (Fairview, PA/Fairview) and
Matt Butler (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East) placed second in the 200-yard freestyle relay coming home in a time of 1:30.49. In the 200 medley relay, the team of
John O'Gorman (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier Central), Butler,
Ryan Moore (Herndon, VA/Oakton) and Farrell placed second in a time of 1:43.18.
The team of
Alex Cutri (Victor, NY/Victor),
Julius Jeong (Salisbury, MD/Wicomico),
Matt Sedewitz (Framingham, MA/Framingham) and Facchine placed fourth in the 200 freestyle relay finishing in a time of 1:47.35.
Rolleston had a good evening individually, placing third in the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.56), and was fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (57.91).
Morris placed third in the 100-yard butterfly (56.67), O'Gorman was fifth in the 100 back (59.53), while Jeong was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.69).
Saturday started with a second place finish in the 400-yard freestyle realy. The team of
Steven Paine (York, PA/Dallastown Area), Jeong, Rolleston and Farrell finished in a time of 3:45.10.
In the 200-yard freestyle Berus placed fourth (1:51.81), Morris was fifth (1:53.36), while Hayes was sixth (1:53.36). Farrell (23.36) and Facchine (23.38) were third and fourth respectively in the 50-yard freestyle. Berus (4:37.44) and Rolleston (4:43.19) were fourth and fifth respectively in the 400-yard individual medley.
The Tigers wrapped up the day with win in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Morris, Hayes, Moore and Paine came home first in a time of 3:23.85.
Matt DePalo (Franklin, MA/Xaverian Brothers) won the 1-meter diving competition with a final score of 447.05.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, January 18 at Hamilton College beginning at 1 p.m.
