ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's soccer team (3-3-1) and the University of Rochester (5-1-1) played to a 1-1 tie on a soggy Saturday evening at Sahlen's Stadium in downtown Rochester at the 2nd Annual Hillside Community Shield. The game was part of the Hillside Community Shield, a fundraiser aimed at supporting the youth and families served by Hillside Family of Agencies and Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Shots were 16-13 in favor of Rochester. Mark Reeves (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) picked up the tie for RIT, making four saves. Mike Moranz made two saves in net for Rochester.

Junior Danny Bloshkin (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) scored in the 46th minute for the Tigers on a penalty kick to open the scoring. He fired a low shot into the right corner for his second goal of the season.

Rochester tied the game in the 85th minute on a goal by Max Fan. He scored with a header into the top right corner off a service from Andrew Sheridan, tying the game at 1-1.

Both teams had good scoring chances in the first overtime. Bloshkin had a good look for RIT early in the OT, while Brendan Kelly had a good look for the Yellowjackets just before time ran out.

Sheridan had a great chance for Rochester midway through the second overtime. He ran onto a loose ball and fired a shot that was blocked away by the Tigers defense. Reuben Marquez had a great run inside the last two minutes getting around his defender and taking the ball to the end line. He sent a ball back to the goal mouth, but no one was there for the Tigers.

Dave Boselli (Chadds Ford, PA/Garnet Valley) had a shot from 20 yards out that went just wide of the net inside the last two minutes of play.

In the first half, Bloshkin had a really good chance off a RIT counter attack in the 27th minute. He fired a long shot from 25 yards out that just missed the post. Griffin Drake had a good chance for the Yellowjackets late in the opening half on a half volley off a service from the flank. His shot sailed wide of the net. Drake also had a great look in the second half, but his shot just missed the crossbar and sailed over the net out of harms way.

Andrew Greenway had a good chance for the Yellowjackets with 18 minutes to play in regulation, but RIT keeper  Reeves stayed on his marks and made the save to keep it a 1-0 lead for RIT.

Bloshkin fed John Kaddo (Troy, NY/Averill Park) on a counter attack for the Tigers with less than 15 minutes to play. Bloshkin led Kaddo perfectly and he gathered and fired a shot that was blocked away by the Rochester defense.

RIT is now 16-25-2 all-time against Rochester.

Earlier in the day, the RIT and Rochester women played to a 1-1 tie.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 28 when the Tigers open up Liberty League play versus Clarkson University at 2 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
