ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT volleyball team (7-7) dropped both matches at the 2013 NYU Violet Classic on Friday. RIT opened the day by losing to the hosts by a score of 3-0. NYU (8-1) won the first set 25-17, rallied to take set two, 28-26, then took the third set, 25-12. The Tigers fell to UMass-Boston (5-5) in their second match by scores of 25-23, 25-7, 25-17.
Against NYU, the Tigers never led in the opening set, but led 22-17 and 24-21 in the second set, before the Violets rallied. The third set was all NYU, as they jumped out to an 18-6 lead and never looked back.
Sarah Szybist (Chicago, IL/Ramstein) led the Tigers offensively with 16 kills, while hitting .333 and added two blocks. Both
Arielle Pariente (Twinsburg, OH/Twinsburg) and
Emma Dowdy (Cocoa, FL/Edgewood) recorded 10 assists each.
Bethany Davis (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) led the way with 14 digs, while
Claire Foggo (Windham, NH/Central Catholic) tallied five assisted blocks.
Alexandria Mao led the Violets with nine kills, while Katie Robinson hit .571 with eight kills. Emily Moore dished out 30 assists and eight service aces, while MaTia Hughes recorded 12 digs.
In the second match against UMass-Boston, Szybist slammed 13 kills, while Dowdy added 10 assists.
Lindsay Quandt (Houston, TX/Houston Christian) led the squad with seven digs. Valentine chipped in with six kills and five digs.
Patsy Boland led UMass-Boston with eight digs and six kills, while Emma Rocha and Megan Pollock added 12 and 11 assists, respectively.
RIT is back in action on Saturday at the NYU Invitational with matches against DeSales University at 10:30 a.m. and SUNY New Paltz at 12:30 p.m.
