CORTLAND, NY -- The RIT men's soccer team (2-3-0) fell to the Red Dragons of SUNY Cortland (2-3-0), 5-0 in non-conference action from Jets Field the campus of SUNY Cortland on a cool, sunny, Saturday afternoon.
Shots were 17-12 in favor of Cortland who improve to 2-3-0 on the season. The Tigers took nine corner kicks to one for the the Red Dragons.
Mark Reeves (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) took the loss in net for RIT, making three saves. Tim Beauvais picked up the win for Cortland, making seven saves.
RIT's best scoring chance came in the 10th minute.
John Kaddo (Troy, NY/Averill Park) was alone in the middle of the Cortland penalty area. He fired a shot that was headed for the right of the net, but Beauvais made the diving stop, sending the ball wide and out of play.
Tyler Marsh gave Cortland a 1-0 lead on his second goal of the season in the first minute. Chris McBride (34') and Bryan Merlos (37') added late first-half goals to give the Red Dragons a 3-0 halftime lead.
Merlos added a second goal in the 73rd minute to make it 4-0 Cortland, while Thomas Nocito added a goal in the 89th minute to make it a 5-0 win.
RIT returns home to face Elmira College on Tuesday, September 17 at 4 p.m. on the pitch of Tiger Stadium
