ROCHESTER, NY - The Hillside Family of Agencies along with Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield have once again teamed up with RIT and the University of Rochester to put on the second annual
Hillside Community Shield, a fundraiser aimed at supporting the youth and families served by Hillside through the game of soccer on Saturday Sept. 21.
Â
The Hillside Family Shield will take place this Saturday at Sahlen's Stadium in downtown Rochester, and will feature two soccer games between the Rochester Institute of Technology and their crosstown rival the University of Rochester with postgame fireworks sponsored by Vision Automotive Group.
Â
The event will begin with the RIT women taking on the Yellowjackets at 5 p.m. in the opening match. The Tigers come into the game with a 4-1-1 record overall and riding a three game unbeaten streak, while Rochester is 3-3 and looking to break a three game skid. Both teams were previously ranked in the top 25 in the nation in previous weeks. RIT has scored just five goals this year, but have held its opponents to a single goal. Rochester has scored 11 goals in 2013, but will have their hands full against the stingy Tigers defense. When these two teams met in 2012, the Tigers came out on top with a 2-1 win, thanks to a late goal in the 78th minute of play by
Quincey Ornellas (Moorpark, CA/Moorpark).Â
Â
At 7:30 the RIT and Rochester men's soccer teams will square off in a rematch from last year's inaugural Hillside Community Shield. Last year, Rochester was able to hold off RIT for a 1-0 win in front of nearly 800 fans at Sahlen's Stadium. This year should be another great match-up, as the Tigers enter Saturday's contest 3-3 overall, while the Yellowjackets are 5-1. RIT has scored nine goals this season while allowing 11 to opponents. Rochester has an aggressive offense that has already scored 26 goals and a stingy defense that has allowed only four goals in 2013.Â
Â
There will be free tickets and transportation for RIT students. For more information, contact the RIT Center for Campus Life at 585-475-7058.Â
Â
Tickets for the public can be purchased at the Sahlen's Stadium box office or online at www.hillside.com and are $7 for adults and only $5 for children under the age of 12. Come support the Rochester community and root on the Tigers!
