ROCHESTER, NY – The No. 5 RIT (8-2) men's lacrosse team picked up an impressive 17-4 win over SUNY Geneseo (4-4) in non-conference action from RIT's Turf Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Eddie Kiesa (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) led the Tigers with five goals, while
Jack Krzyston (Bedford, NH/Bishop Guertin) had a goal and three assists.
Kyle Aquin (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Jean De Brebeuf) scored three goals, and
Brad Gillies (Oakville, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas),
Taylor Wisman (Seattle, WA/Inglemoor) and
Braden Wallace (Oakville, Ontario/Abbey Park) each had a goal and an assist.
RIT's defense was stout, shutting out the Knights in the first half, and holding Geneseo to a season-low four goals.
Pat Johnston (Long Beach, CA/Norwell (MA)) picked up his eighth win of the season, making 10 saves.
The Tigers out shot Geneseo 52-25 and won the ground ball battle 54-25. RIT won 19-of-24 face-offs and were 21-of-21 on clearing attempts.
Tyler Brooks-Lambert (Seneca Castle, NY/Midlakes) was 11-of-12 on face-offs for RIT and had five ground balls. Senior
PJ Hart (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) was 8-of-10 on draws and had four ground balls. Senior defensemen
Elliott Cowburn (Oakville, ON/Holy Trinity) had five ground balls and one caused turnover.
RIT jumped out of the gate early, scoring four straight to open the game, leading 4-0 after one quarter of play.
Pat McMullan (Easton, PA/Wyoming Seminary), Gillies, Wallace and Wisman all scored for the Tigers in the quarter. Kiesa's goal with 6:59 to play in the second quarter proved to be the only scoring in the quarter.
RIT came out after the break and scored six times in the third quarter. Aquin scored all three of his goals in the third quarter, while Kiesa,
Allister Warren (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern Collegiate Institute) and
Luke Wolfe (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville North) each scored.
John Felix scored the Knights first goal with 13:09 to play in the third quarter off an assist Steve Cregan. Tim Burgess added a second goal with 10:03 to play in the third off another assist from Cregan.
Kiesa scored three of RIT's six fourth-quarter goals, while Krzyston,
Foster Wisman (Seattle, WA/Inglemoor) and
Owen Nicola (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) each scored for the Tigers. For Nicola, it was his first collegiate goal.
Cregan led Geneseo with two assists, while Andre Keating, Tim Burgess, and Brent Lawless each scored for the Knights. Ryan Zaremba got the start in net, and took the loss making 12 saves.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, April 6 when the Tigers host Liberty League rival Rensselaer at 1 p.m.
