Kiesa's career-high six goals helps No. 3 RIT men's lacrosse to 16-6 win at Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – Sophomore attack Eddie Kiesa (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) tallied a career high six goals as the No. 3 RIT (13-2, 5-0 Liberty League) men's lacrosse team defeated Skidmore College (4-10, 2-3 Liberty League) 16-6 in Liberty League action on Saturday. The Tigers broke open a close game by outscoring Skidmore 12-3 over the final 41 minutes of action to win their seventh straight game.

Kiesa led RIT with seven points on six goals and an assist. Jack Krzyston (Bedford, NH/Bishop Guertin) had five points on a goal and four assists, while Allister Warren (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern Collegiate Institute) and Braden Wallace (Oakville, Ontario/Abbey Park) each scored three goals. Pat Johnston (Long Beach, CA/Norwell (MA)) picked up his 13th win of the season in net, making 12 saves. Tyler Brooks-Lambert (Seneca Castle, NY/Midlakes) won 10-of-12 face-offs and had seven ground balls. PJ Hart (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) was 9-of-12 from the face-off "X" and had four ground balls.

Shots were 52-35 in favor of RIT, and won 20-of-25 face-offs. RIT, ranked second in Division III in man-up percentage, was 2-of-2 on man-up opportunities Saturday. Ground balls were 38-28 in favor of the Tigers.

Mike Perlow and JP Sullivan led Skidmore with two goals apiece. Kevin Mulvey and Jon Hoeg each scored a goal. Matt Diaco took the loss in net for the Thoroughbreds, allowing 16 goals and making 10 saves.

RIT opened the game fast, scoring the first three goals of the contest. Kyle Aquin (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Jean De Brebeuf), Kiesa and Taylor Wisman (Seattle, WA/Inglemoor) tallied goals in the first 2:34 of the contest giving RIT a quick 3-0 lead. Skidmore goals by Mulvey and Sullivan cut the Tigers lead to 3-2 with 4:22 to play in the opening quarter.

Kiesa scored his second of the quarter with 26 seconds to play off an assist from Krzyston to give RIT a 4-2 lead at the end of one quarter of play. Perlow tallied his 32nd goal of the season to open the second quarter scoring, pulling the Thoroughbreds to within a goal at 4-3.

RIT responded with four straight goals to take an 8-3 lead into halftime. Kiesa scored two of RIT's four second-quarter goals, while Alec Sulesky (Medina, OH/Medina) and Wallace each scored a goal for the Tigers.

Warren opened the second-half scoring with his 27th goal of the season off an assist from Kyle Aquin (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Jean De Brebeuf) to give RIT their largest lead of the game at 9-3.

Sullivan broke the RIT run for Skidmore with his 18th tally of the season with 12:18 to play in the third quarter, cutting RIT's lead to 9-4.

RIT closed out the third quarter with four straight goals, leading 13-4 after three quarters of play. Kiesa had two of the Tigers four goals in that stretch, while Krzyston and Wallace each scored once. Warren scored twice in the fourth quarter, and Wallace scored once as RIT closed out the game. Perlow and Hoeg scored the Thoroughbreds goals in the fourth quarter.

RIT returns to action next Saturday, April 27 when the Tigers host St. Lawrence in the regular season finale at Tiger Stadium. Both teams come into the game 5-0 in conference play. The winner claims the regular season title and will host the Liberty League Tournament.
