Women's tennis drops close match to Roberts Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT women's tennis team (0-4, 0-1 Liberty League) battled hard, but eventually lost a 5-4 decision to non-conference foe Roberts Wesleyan at the Gordon Field House on Tuesday afternoon.

RIT did all of its damage at the first and second positions. At first singles, Elizabeth McGrail (Rockford, IL/Guilford) secured a 7-6, 6-2 win over Tina Miller of the Redhawks. At second singles Maite Vera Antelo (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/Mayor San Loranzo) won 6-1, 6-3 over Dina Obukhova, 6-1, 6-3. Roberts won the third, fourth, fifth, and singles matches, highlighted by a Camilla Linhart win at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-1.

Vera Antelo and McGrail partnered to upend Obukhova and Maria Jimenez at first doubles, 8-3, while Britt Amari (Sussex, NJ/Vernon Township High School) and Kristen Rice (Clyde, NY/Clyde-Savannah) won at second doubles over Miller and Camilla Linhart, 8-6. Roberts Wesleyan secured the win in the match at third doubles, with Kaitlynn Zaffuto and Emily Linhart winning by a score of 8-3.

The Tigers are back in action on Monday, with a road contest at Nazareth that gets underway at 4 p.m.
