Women's tennis picks up first win of the 2013 season, shutting out Bard, 9-0

The RIT women's tennis team (1-5, 1-1 Liberty League) recorded win of the 2012-13 season, defeating Liberty League rival Bard (4-5, 0-3 Liberty League) via shutout, 9-0 at Stevenson Courts on Saturday afternoon.

Elizabeth McGrail (Rockford, IL/Guilford) got things started with a convincing 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles over Jean Wong. Maite Vera Antelo (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/Mayor San Loranzo) shutout Nelle Plotkin at second singles, 6-0, 6-0. McGrail and Vera Antelo defeated Wong and Plotkin at first doubles, 8-1.

At third singles, Kristen Rice (Clyde, NY/Clyde-Savannah) cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win. She then partnered with Britt Amari (Sussex, NJ/Vernon Township High School) to record an 8-1 win at second doubles. Amari then earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at fifth singles. Kelsie Redburn (Byram, NJ/Pope John XXIII) defeated Bard's Beryl Taylor at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-4.

The duo of Margaret Barnstein and Lindsay Smith (Colorado Springs, CO/Ramport) cruised to an 8-0 win at third doubles. Smith then defeated Danielle Iserlis at sixth singles, 6-1, 6-1 to secure the shutout win.

RIT is back in action on Saturday, with a home contest against Liberty League foe Rensselaer that gets underway at 10 a.m.
