ROCHESTER, NY -- The No. 7 RIT (1-1) men's lacrosse team came away with a 9-4 win over The College at Brockport (0-2) in non-conference action from RIT's Turf Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers scored five second-quarter goals to break open a close game, and held on for the win.
Junior
Taylor Wisman (Seattle, WA/Inglemoor) led RIT with four points on three goals and an assist.
Jack Krzyston (Bedford, NH/Bishop Guertin) and
Allister Warren (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern Collegiate Institute) each had a pair of goals, while
Kyle Sterzin (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and
Kyle Aquin (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Jean De Brebeuf) each had a goal and an assist.
Brad Gillies (Oakville, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) dished out a pair of assists for the Tigers, who outshot Brockport 40-32.
Pat Johnston (Long Beach, CA/Norwell (MA)) picked up his first win of the season, making 12 saves for RIT.
Tyler Brooks-Lambert (Seneca Castle, NY/Midlakes) went 6-of-8 on face-offs for RIT, who won 10-of-17 overall for the game.
Justin Cook scored two of Brockport's four goals. Riley Austin and Alex Austin each had a goal, while Tim Cook and Jesse Elliott each had an assist for the Golden Eages. Cory Banwaree took the loss for Brockport, making 11 saves.
With the scored tied 1-1, RIT scored five goals in the second quarter, leading 6-2 at the half. Wisman scored two of his three goals in the second quarter, while Warren, Sterzin and Aquin each scored for the Tigers.
RIT opened the second half turning the ball over seven times in the third quarter and failed to score in the opening quarter of the second half for the second time this season. Brockport's Alex Austin scored the quarter's lone goal with 13:05 to play, cutting RIT's lead to 6-3.
Cook kept the momentum going for Brockport, making it 6-4 RIT on his second goal of the season with 11:41 to play in the fourth quarter. He scored off an assist from Jesse Elliott. RIT wrestled momentum away from Brockport, scoring three straight goals late in the fourth quarter to close out the game.
Krzyston scooped up a loose ball off a shot and scored on the unsettled situation with 8:39 to play in the fourth, extending RIT's lead to 7-4. He struck again off a beautiful feed from
Eddie Kiesa (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) with 2:09 to play, increasing the Tigers lead to 8-4. Wisman closed out the scoring on his third goal of the game off a feed from Warren with :47 to play, making it a 9-4 final.
RIT won the ground ball battle 26-20, and went 15-of-17 on clearing attempts. The Tigers went 0-for-2 with the man advantage, and held Brockport scoreless in both of its man-up tries.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, March 9 versus Keuka College at 1 p.m. on the field at Penn Yan Academy in downtown Penn Yan, New York.
