Women's basketball wins fourth straight with victory at Bard



ANNONDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY -- The RIT (9-12, 5-7 Liberty League) women's basketball team picked up their fourth straight on Friday win with a 61-39 win at Bard College. The Tigers jumped out to an 11-2 run to open the game and never looked back, winning their third straight conference game.

#Leslie Havens (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) and Ashlynn Palmitesso (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) led RIT with 12 points apiece. Havens added five rebounds and five assists. (Bemus Point, NY/Maple Grove)Madeline Apperson (Bemus Point, NY/Maple Grove)# tallied eight rebounds and grabbed five rebounds, while #Courtney Tennant (Cortland, NY/Cortland)# scored nine points and seven rebounds.

RIT shot 37 percent from the floor on 24-of-65 shooting. The Tigers shot 5-of-18 from behind the arc and went 8-of-14 from the foul line.

The Tigers defense was stifling, holding the Raptors to 39 points, twenty-six percent shooting and forcing Bard into 21 turnovers.

After falling behind 2-0 early in the first half, RIT rattled off 11 straight points, taking an 11-2 lead on a layup by Havens. She scored seven of the Tigers' first 11 points.

RIT led by as many as 13 points in the first half, taking a 26-16 halftime lead. Palmitesso scored 11 of her 12 points in the first half to pace the Tigers.

Bard got to within seven points in the second half, but no closer. Victoria Fleischer's three pointer at the 11:06 mark cut RIT's lead down to 37-30.

RIT responded with a 16-3 run over a 5:44 span, taking a 53-33 lead on a three pointer by #Kayla Wheeler (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa)#, her only three points of the game.

The Tigers would maintain their advantage going on to the 22-point win.

Bianka Bell led Bard with nine points and seven rebounds. Joanna Ragan added eight points and eight rebounds.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Vassar College. Tip-off in Poughkeepsie, New York is at 2 pm.
