CLEVELAND, OH - The RIT wrestling team (4-14) wrapped up its dual meet schedule by finishing 2-1 at the Si Ostrach Tri Meet hosted by Case Western Reserve University on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers opened by falling to Thiel, 31-12, before defeating the hosts Case Western 30-12, and Muskingum, 39-14. Nine different grapplers won at least one match today.

Sophomore #Brad Mayville (Marion, NY/Wayne)# went 3-0 on the afternoon at 149 lbs. to improve to 31-8 this season. He opened with a 12-3 win over Jordan Smith of Thiel, then defeated Zack McCarthy of Case Western 15-1. He won his final match via forfeit.

#Greg Jones (Weare, NH/John Stark)# went 2-0, which included a pin over Nick Sutton of Thiel, while #Rory Bruce (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda)# recorded a 2-0 mark, including an 11-0 win over Xander Straughter of Case Western at 141 lbs. After a loss in his opening match of the day, #Sean Sercu (Rochester, NY/Bishop Kearney)# won his final two matches at 165 lbs., including a pin against Brian Snyder of Case Western. #Jake Swearingen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown)# also won a pair of matches at 197 lbs., via both a pin and major decision.

#Lucas Howland (Albany, NY/Schoharie)#, #Nick Fisk (Las Cruces, NM/Mayfield)#, #Mike Nguyen (Syracuse, NY/Jordan-Elbridge)# also earned wins for the Tigers. Howland picked up his first pin of the season against Muskingum.

RIT will send 10 athletes to compete on Saturday, March 2 at the NCAA Regional Championships at Ohio Northern University.  This will be the qualifying tournament for the Tigers, as the NCAA has adopted a new regional format to determine qualifiers for the Division III championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Mar. 15-16.  The top three finishers in each weight class will automatically qualify for the championships.  There will no longer be any wild card selections.
