Men's basketball closes out regular season with loss to Clarkson



ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (9-16, 5-11 Liberty League) men's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 77-63 on Senior Day at Clark Gym. The Tigers honored seniors #Nick Dobson (Corning, NY/Corning West) and Eric Travis (Chicago,IL/Hinsdale South)# before the game as they played in their final game on the floor of Clark Gym.

Junior #Matt Gundrum (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow)# was awarded the Steven King Award which is awarded every year to a RIT men's basketball player who exhibits spirit, enthusiasm, sportsmanship and leadership.

Travis led RIT with 16 points and six rebounds. #Jameel Balenton (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers)# tallied 13 points, while #Mike D'Amico (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) and Nick Dobson (Corning, NY/Corning West)# each scored 10 for the Tigers who finish the regular season with a 9-16 mark.

John Coleman led Clarkson with 24 points and six rebounds. Felix Abongo scored 16 points and Jerry Coleman added 11 points for the Golden Flyers who close out the regular season with a 16-7 record.

The Tigers trailed by as many as eight points in the first half, but outscored Clarkson 12-0 over the final 3:23 leading 31-29 at the half. D'Amico led RIT with seven first-hslf points, while Dobson and Travis each had six.

RIT maintained a slight lead early in the second half, but an 18-2 run by Clarkson over a 6:21 span in the second half gave the Golden Flyers a 68-54 lead with 6:21 to play.

RIT got as close as seven points down the stretch, but no closer as Clarkson held on for the 77-63 win.

The Tigers shot 52.9 percent from the floor on 27-of-51 shooting. RIT went 3-of-9 from three point land, and were 6-of-6 from the foul line. The Tigers score 25 points in the paint and nine points off of 11 Clarkson turnovers.

Clarkson shot 51.7 percent from the floor on 30-of58 shooting. The Golden Knights went 3-of-12 from behind the arc, and were 14-of-14 from the foul line.  Clarkson scored 38 points in the paint, and 26 points off of 17 RIT turnovers.
