Courtney Tennant (Cortland, NY/Cortland)# scored a career high 29 points, and #
Jess Kramer (Fayetteville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt)# tallied tied a career high with 18 points as the RIT women's basketball team defeated St. Lawrence University 73-65 in Liberty League action on Friday.
Tennant led RIT with 29 points on 11-of-21 shooting from the floor. The junior center also grabbed a game high 15 rebounds. Kramer scored 18 on 6-of-11 shooting, including five three pointers, accounting for all the three's scored by the Tigers.
RIT closed out the first half with a 10-2 run, taking a 34-26 lead into halftime. Tennant led RIT with 13 first-half points and grabbed six rebounds. Kramer added nine points for the Tigers who shot 43.8 percent from the floor in the first half.
Kramer's three to open the second half extended the Tigers lead to 37-26, before a 7-0 run by the Saints cut the lead to four on a three pointer by Cassie St. Hilaire.
On St. Lawrence's next posssession, Kara McDuffee made a layup, cutting the Tiger lead to 37-35.
RIT answered with a 5-0 run, taking a 42-35 lead on a layup by Tennant with 15:07 to play in the second half.
St. Hilaire's layup with 13:04 to play cut the RIT lead to 44-42, the closest would be the remainder of the game.
Leslie Haven (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton)'s layup with 5:12 to play extended RIT's lead to 14 points, their largest of the game.
St. Lawrence got to within six points on a pair of free throws by Kara McDuffee with 1:14 to play, but the Tigers made their free throws down the stretch, holding for the 73-65 lead.
RIT shot 44.4 percent from the floor on 28-of-63 shooting. The Tigers went 5-of-11 from three point land and were 12-of-21 from the foul line. RIT held a slight 43-42 rebounding edge, scoring 40 of their 73 points inside the paint.
St. Lawrence shot 35.8 percent from the floor on 24-of-67 shooting. The Saints went 5-of-20 from behind the arc and were 12-of-17 from the foul line.
The Saints were led by Kara McDuffee who scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds. St. Hilaire and Hannah WIlson each scored 13 points, while Allison Cady added 12.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, February 16 when the Tigers host Clarkson on Senior Day at 2 pm.
