Big second half lifts RIT men's basketball over St. Lawrence



ROCHESTER, NY -- On a night that saw RIT (9-15, 5-10 Liberty League) Head Coach #Bob McVean# honored on winning his 500th career game, and the Tigers honored local soldiers who lost their lives in battle, the RIT men's basketball team scored 50 second-half points en route to a 73-60 win over St. Lawrence in Liberty League action from Clark Gym on Friday evening.

Trailing 30-23 at halftime, RIT outscored the Saints 50-30 in the second half, shooting robust 66.7 percent from the floor. Senior #Eric Travis (Chicago,IL/Hinsdale South)# led the second-half comeback, scoring 13 of his game-high 17 points in the second half. #Mike D'Amico (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon)# scored all 11 of his points in the second half, while freshman #J.P. Reagan# scored 10 of his 13 points in the second half.

The Saints came out of halftime and extended their lead to 10 points on a layup by Janpeter Brase.

Travis answered back with two straight buckets for the Tigers, pulling RIT to within three points on a three pointer from #Jameel Balenton (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers)# cutting the St. Lawrence lead to 35-32.

Trailing 39-35 with 15:36 to play, RIT went on a 19-0 run, taking a 15 point lead on a free throw by Travis. Reagan drained three straight three pointers and four overall in that stretch to pace the Tigers run.

D'Amico's three pointer with 14:44 to play gave RIT their first lead of the game.

St. Lawrence got to within seven, but the Tigers continued their hot shooting down the stretch, securing the 73-60 win.

Travis led RIT with 17 points and had seven rebounds. Balenton and Reagan each scored 13, while D'Amico added 11 for RIT who shot 52.6 percent from the floor oon 30-of-57 shooting. The Tigers were a sizzling 10-of-24 from three point land and made 3-of-9 from the foul line.

St. Lawrence was led by Kyle Miller who scored 14 points. Janpeter Brase tallied 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Saints who fall to 9-15 overall and 7-8 in the Liberty League. Marty Lewis scored 11 for St. Lawrence who shot 40.4 percent from the floor on 23-of-57 shooting.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, February 16 at 4 pm when the Tigers host Clarkson University for Senior Day.
