Men's basketball loses to SUNY Geneseo in Wendy's College Classic consolation



ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT (5-2) men's basketball team dropped its second straight game, losing to SUNY Geneseo (3-1) 72-55 in the consolation round of the 48th Annual Wendy's College Classic Friday evening on the floor of Clark Gymnasium.

RIT shot 34.9 percent from the floor on 22-of-63 shooting, including 5-of-23 from behind the arc. The Tigers were 6-of-8 from the foul line and held a 38-34 rebounding edge.

Sophomore center #Kamron Davis (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) led RIT with 11 points and 10 rebounds. (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker)JP Reagan (Cortland, NY/Cortland)# added 10 points and nine assists, while #Miguel Lopez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/St. Francis)#, #Gabe Nicasio (Essex Junction, VT/Essex) and Sheldon Davis# each scored seven points.

RIT trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half, cut the lead to six on a free throw by Lopez with 11:12 to play in the opening half and trailed 43-33 at the break. Lopez and Nicasio led the Tigers with seven first half points.

Davis' layup early in the second half got RIT to within five points at 43-38. That would be as close as the Tigers would get in the second half as Geneseo built a 15 point lead down the stretch.

Gordon Lyons led the Knights with 21 points and 16 rebounds. Connor Fedge added 16 points and Thomas Decker scored nine points for Geneseo who will face Hobart in the fifth place game on Saturday at 3 p.m. on the campus of St. John Fisher College.

RIT will face Nazareth College in the seventh place game on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. on the campus of St. John Fisher College.
