Women's hockey set to play first-ever outdoor game against Clarkson on Saturday

ROCHESTER, NY --
The RIT women's hockey team will make history by playing in its first outdoor game, as they host No. 6 Clarkson University at Frontier Field in downtown Rochester as part of the "Frozen Frontier". The game will take place at 12:05 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14.

This is the sixth outdoor game in the history of NCAA Women's Hockey, which the Tigers are excited to be a part of.
 
"The fact that we get to play outdoors in front of the RIT community, our family and friends, means a lot," said captain #Lindsay Grigg (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Hornets)#. "It means a lot to our program and will be a lot of fun."
 
RIT enters Saturday's game looking to reach the 10-win mark. RIT has a 9-9-1 record and is third in the College Hockey America standings with a 4-3-1 mark. Five players have at least 10 points this season. Senior #Kourtney Kunichika (Fullerton, CA/LA Selects) leads the way with 13 points on five goals and eight assists. She is one goal shy of 50 for her career. (Brantford, Ontario/Assumption Collegiate)Kolbee McCrea (Wawa, Ontario/Burlington Barracudas)# has a team-best eight goals.
 
Goaltender #Ali Binnington (Oakville, Ontario/Mississauga Chiefs)# is 8-6-1 with a 2.05 goals against average and .933 save percentage this season and is quickly closing in on several RIT career marks. She is tied for sixth nationally with three shutouts and seventh nationally in save percentage
 
"It will be a good experience for everyone and it brings back a lot of memories of playing outdoors as a kid," said sophomore #Carly Payerl (Kitchener, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic)#.
 
Clarkson enters this Saturday's game ranked No. 6 nationally with a 13-4-2 mark. Last weekend, the Golden Knights split a weekend series at home against No. 4 North Dakota. Clarkson is outscoring its opponents, 66-21 this season. Jamie Lee Rattray leads the team and is tied for fourth nationally in scoring with 29 points on 14 goals and 15 assists. The Golden Knights have four players with at least 21 points and seven in double figures. In net, Erica Howe is 13-4-2 with a 1.06 goals against average and .946 save percentage. She leads Division I with seven shutouts and is second in goals against average and third in save percentage.
 
This is the second meeting between the two schools this season, with Clarkson, ranked third nationally at the time, rolling to a decisive win. Clarkson leads the all-time series between the two schools, 7-4-1. Before this season, the two teams had not met since Feb. 16, 1985.
 
"It's a great experience for us and the school, something we may never experience again," said junior assistant captain #Morgan Scoyne (Drumbo, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres)#.
 
Tickets are available for at the Gordon Field House and Activities Center Box Office, Frontier Field House Box Office or by phone at (585) 475-4121. Fans can also purchase tickets at www.rithockey.com. Ticket prices are $10 for general admission and $5 for students.
 
In addition, the RIT men's team will play Niagara University at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday. Ticket prices for that game are as follows: $10 (Limited View), $15 (100 level) and $25 (200 level).
 
Tony Pepperoni is the game sponsor. There will be two buses that leave RIT to shuttle students to Frontier Field, starting at 10:45 a.m.

The game will be aired live on Time Warner Cable Sports Channel 26 with Gene Battaglia and John DiTullio bringing you the action from Frontier Field.  In addition, the contest will be broadcast over the airwaves on WITR 89.7 FM and witr.rit.edu. Live stats are also available here.
