ITHACA, NY - The RIT wrestling team recorded an 11th place finish out of 20 teams with 36.5 points at the 2013 New York State Wrestling Championships held at Cornell University on Sunday. The tournament featured several Division I teams, as RIT placed fourth out of the Division III schools. Host Cornell won the tournament with 207 points.

Brad Mayville (Marion, NY/Wayne)# was RIT's best finisher, placing fifth at 149 lbs., going 4-2 on the day. Mayville opened with a win via pin fall in 4:45 over Justin Paradiso of Nassau Community College, before losing to Christopher Villalonga of Cornell, 15-4. In the consolation round, Mayville won by scores of 9-4 and 8-0 before losing 6-2. Mayville won the fifth place match by medical forfeit.

Tory Cain (Ontario, NY/Wayne) and senior (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy)Tyler Brent (Gasport, NY/Royalton-Hartland)# each earned eighth place finishes in their respective weight classes. Cain went 3-3 at 165 lbs., winning his first two matches, including one via pinfall. Brent was also 3-3 at 184 lbs., winning three consecutive consolation matches by pin.

Rory Bruce (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) and
Jake Sepor (Stafford, NY/Pavilion)# won one match each on the afternoon.
The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, Dec. 7, as they host the RIT Invitational that gets underway at 9:30 a.m.
