ALFRED, NY -- The RIT men's swimming and diving team travelled to Alfred University on Friday evening and defeated the Saxons 131-106. The win improves the Tigers to 2-1 on the season. It is RIT's third win in the last four years over Alfred, who has been one of the perennial powers in the region.
RIT opened the meet with a second place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of
Steven Paine (York, PA/Dallastown Area),
Alex Madar (Suffern, NY/Suffern),
Matt Rolleston (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) and
Matt Butler (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East) came home second in a time of 1:42.79.
The team of
Sean Kim (Great Neck, NY/Shine Great Neck South),
Peter Coutts (Statsburg, NY/F.D. Roosevelt High School),
Ryan Moore (Herndon, VA/Oakton) and Jake Shanks finished third in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:44.63.
Alexander Popescu won the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:31.62, while
John O'Gorman (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier Central) was third finishing in a time of 10:56.51. Popescu also won the 500-yard freestyle finishing in a time of 5:00.52.
The TIgers swept both the one-meter and three-meter diving events.
John Tellgren (Anoka, MN/Anoka) won the 3-meter event with a score of 245.80, while
Matt DePalo (Franklin, MA/Xaverian Brothers) won the 1-meter event with a score of 252.45.
Matt Butler (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East), Madar and Coutts finished first, second, and third, respectively, in the 100-yard breaststroke. Butler won the event in a time of 1:03.21, while Madar was second in a time of 1:04.10. Coutts came home third in a time of 1:05.67.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Nov. 9 versus St. Lawrence University. The first event gets under way at 1 p.m. in Canton, NY.
