ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT men's swimming and diving (0-1) team opened up the 2013-14 season by suffering a 171-124 dual meet loss to Rensselaer (0-1) at Judson Pool on Saturday afternoon. RIT won four individual events and one relay.
RIT swept first and second in both of the diving events.
Matt DePalo (Franklin, MA/Xaverian Brothers) won the 3-meter over teammate
John Tellgren (Anoka, MN/Anoka), while Tellgren turned the tables on DePalo in the 1-meter. DePalo had a winning dive of 233.80 in the 3-meter, while Tellgren was victorious in the 1-meter with a score of 265.75.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of
Austin Hayes (Aurora, OH/Aurora),
Scott Farrell (Buffalo, NY/North Tonawanda),
Matt Berus (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) and Alexander Popescu won in a time of 3:24.72.
Matt Rolleston (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) won the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:06.73.
Popescu won the the 500-yard freestyle by three seconds in a time of 5:03.26.
Steven Paine (York, PA/Dallastown Area) was second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:03.05 and 100-backstroke (56.92).
Scott Farrell (Buffalo, NY/North Tonawanda) was second in the 100-freestyle, while
Matt Butler (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East) picked up a second place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke.
RIT is right back in action on Wednesday, with a dual meet at Oswego State that gets nderway at 6 p.m.
