TROY, NY – The RIT men's soccer team (5-6-3, 2-3-1 Liberty League) played to a scoreless draw at Rensselaer (9-5-1, 5-1-1 Liberty League) in Liberty League action from Troy, N.Y. on Saturday afternooon.

Shots were 18-12 in favor of Rensselaer, while corner kicks were 8-3 in favor of the Engineers. Mark Reeves (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) got the tie, making three saves. Rob Dewald got the tie for RPI, making four saves.

Senior forward Sean Sullivan (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) tested Dewald early on when he broke in on goal all alone. Dewald flew off his line to make a sliding save in the third minute of play.

Four minutes later, the Engineers had their first chance to take a lead, but a cross from Nathaniel Gunderson rolled through the box to junior Pat Noonan, who's shot sailed over the top of the net.

In the 29th minute, Ryan Gracy ripped a right-footed try from the 12 yards out that wound up inches from the left post. Despite the advantage in chances in the first half, RPI trailed RIT, 8-6 in shots after 45 minutes, including 2-0 in shots on goal.

The second stanza provided more chances each way, including a partial breakaway opportunity for Gunderson in the 52nd minute. His low shot was turned away by Reeves. Six minutes later, junior Tim Terrezza skipped a shot just wide left of goal.

Noonan nearly put the Engineers ahead in the 87th minute, but his attempt from 10 yards spun off the outside of his right foot and went well wide of the mark. Rensselaer held a 14-9 shots advantage after 90 minutes of play.

The Tigers had the first quality scoring chance in the extra session, when senior captain John Kaddo (Troy, NY/Averill Park) saw his shot from 25 yards curl just over the crossbar in the 97th minute.

Gunderson then got a clean look at goal in the 110th minute, but Reeves was able to hold onto the strike, despite being off balance.

The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday, October 23 when they host St. John Fisher College at 4 p.m. for a non-league contest at Tiger Stadium.
