ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's hockey team (2-3-0) fell to visiting University of Vermont (1-2-1) by a score of 5-2 in front of 747 fans at Ritter Arena on Saturday afternoon as part of RIT's Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend.
Dayna Colang and Amanda Pelkey led the Catamounts with four points apiece. Pelkey had two goals and two assists, while Colang added a goal and three assists. Brittany Zuback had a goal and two assists. Victoria Andreakos also scored for the Catamounts, who picked up their first win of the season.
Vermont out-shot RIT, 33-25. Goal;tender Madison Litchfield stopped 32 shots for her first collegiate win.

Vermont was 2-for-6 with the man-advantage, while RIT was scoreless in seven attempts with the man-advantage.
Unlike last night, where RIT got off to a great start and led 2-0 after one period of play, Vermont was the team that dominated the first period today, going up 3-1 after 20 minutes of play.
Just 3:20 in, Vermont got on the board, as Zuback took advantage of an RIT misplay to tally her second goal of the year. Ashley Salerno fired a shot wide that caromed off the back boards. Binnington went to smother the puck, but she over played it right to Zuback, who fired it in from in tight.
RIT would get on the board at the 12:45 mark, as Stenason fired a long shot from the left point that eluded Litchfield through a screen for her first collegiate tally. #
Dakota Waites (Whitby, Ontario/Sinclair) and
Lindsay Grigg (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Hornets)# assisted on the goal.
Vermont would take advantage of four consecutive RIT penalties later in the period. With just six seconds left on a 5-on-3 advantage, Pelkey fired in a shot from the left side of the net to give the Catamounts a 2-1 lead. Vermont had RIT scrambling for well over a minute in its own zone before Pelkey's tally.
Just 2:17 later, Colang rifled a shot from in tight on a power-play off assists from Pelkey and Zuback to make it 3-1.
RIT was awarded five power-plays in the second period, but could not convert, as Vermont tacked on to its lead with a pair of goals less than two minutes apart to take a 5-1 lead into the second intermission.

Pelkey tallied her second goal of the game at the 7:39 mark, eluding a Tiger defenseman at the blue line, coming in with a full head of steam and slipping a shot past binnington to the far side to make it 4-1 Catamounts.
Just 1:54 later, Andreakos slipped in a rebound in front after Colang's initial shot was stopped by Binnington.
McCrea scored on a breakaway with 32 seconds left in regulation. She took a long feed from Waites and slipped a backhander past Litchfield. #
