Women's hockey heads West to play pair of games at CHA foe Lindenwood this weekend

ROCHESTER, NY –
The RIT women's hockey team embarks on a long road trip this weekend, travelling to face College Hockey America foe Lindenwood University. Friday's contest begins at 8 p.m., while Sunday's game gets underway at 3 p.m.

RIT (12-10-4, 5-3-4 CHA) earned three out of a possible four points last weekend against Robert Morris to move into third place in the CHA standings with 14 points. On Saturday, the two teams skated to a 2-2 tie, while RIT shutout the Colonials, 2-0 on Sunday. On Saturday, #Ariane Yokoyama (Van Nuys, CA/LA Selects) and Carly Payerl (Kitchener, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic)# scored for the Tigers, while #Ali Binnington (Oakville, Ontario/Mississauga Chiefs)# made 22 saves. On Sunday, Binnington stopped all 24 shots she faced, including 12 in the third period to record her fifth shutout of the year. #Marissa Maugeri (Ajax, Ontario/Durham West Lightning) and Celeste Brown (Great Falls, MT/National Sports Academy)# tallied for RIT, who moved to 6-1-2 over their last nine games and finished January with a 5-1-1 mark.

Binnington was named the CHA Goaltender of the Week for the fourth time this season and is now tied for third in the nation with five shutouts. She is 9-5-3 this season with a 1.88 goals against average and .926 save percentage and has allowed just nine goals in her last eight games. Overall, RIT has allowed just nine goals in its last nine games, out-scoring its opponents, 33-9 over that stretch.

The Tigers are tied for 14th nationally in scoring, averaging 2.88 goals per game, and 11th defensively, allowing 2.15 per contest. The Tigers power-play is 12th nationally, converting at 20.7 percent (24-for-116). RIT has eight games, remaining, all against College Hockey America foes, three home, and five away.

Lindenwood (2-23-1, 2-9-1 CHA) enters this weekend's contests looking to snap a five-game losing streak, all against CHA foes. They are currently fifth in the league standings with five points. Last weekend, the Lady Lions lost a pair of road games at nationally-ranked Mercyhurst, 10-0 and 5-1. Alison Wickenheiser leads the team in scoring with 15 points on seven goals and eight assists, while Allyson Arcibal has a team-high eight goals. The Lady Lions are being outscored 130-39 this season. In net, Nicole Hensley is 2-14-1 with a 4.33 goals against average and .906 save percentage.

The two teams met earlier on the season, with RIT winning 5-1 on Dec. 15 and the two teams skating to a 1-1 draw the next day. Brown scored a pair of goals and added an assist to lead the way in the 5-1 win. The next day RIT fired 44 shots on goal, but Lindenwood goaltender Nicole Hensley made 43 saves.
