RIT women's basketball loses at home to Vassar 71-50



ROCHESTER, NY -- For the first time in the 2013 calendar year, the RIT (4-11, 1-6 Liberty League) women's basketball team played a home game. The Tigers were defeated by Vassar College (13-3, 5-2 Liberty League) 71-50 in Liberty League action from Clark Gym on Friday night.

RIT shot 25 percent from the floor on 16-of-64 shooting. The Tigers made 4-of-14 three pointers and were 14-of-19 from the foul line.

#Courtney Tennant (Cortland, NY/Cortland) led RIT with 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. (Bemus Point, NY/Maple Grove)Kayla Wheeler (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa)# added eight points, while #Jess Kramer (Fayetteville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt)# added seven points and five rebounds.

Vassar broke the game open with a 13-4 run to open the second half, building a 49-30 lead on a jumper by Colleen O'Connell, who was one of three Brewers to score in double figures, finishing with 10 points.

Cydni Matsuoka led all scorers with 17 points for the Brewers who improve to 13-3 overall and 5-2 in the Liberty League. Caitlin Drakeley scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

RIT held a 53-47 rebounding edge, turning the ball over 12 times leading to 22 Vassar points.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 26 when they host Bard College at 2 p.m. on the floor of Clark Gym.
