Men's soccer shuts out Cortland; Tigers win third straight

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (3-1-0) men's soccer team picked up its thirs straight win with a 2-0 vicotry over SUNY Cortland on a rainy afternoon on Tiger Stadium. Danny Bloshkin (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and Geno Rocco (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) scored both RIT goals.

RIT dominated play, firing 17 shots to just five for the Red Dragons. The Tigers took six corner kicks to four for Cortland. Sean Conway (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) picked up his third win of the season, allowing zero goals and making three saves. Tim Beauvais took the loss for Cortland, allowing two goals and making four saves.

The Tigers came out firing in the first half, firinf nine shots in the first half. John Kaddo (Troy, NY/Averill Park) had a great chance early in the opening half, rigling a shot that banged off the post.

CJ Brunner (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore West) had a couple scoring chances in the first half, firing one shot just wide off a corner kick, and another that was saved by Beauvais.

After a scoreless first half, Bloshkin struck for the Tigers in the 56th minute with  shot from 30 yards out off a free kick that beat Beauvais to give RIT a 1-0 lead.

Rocco made it 2-0 RIT with his second goal of the season in the 79th minute. Jimmy Forbes (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) bulled his way through the midfield and fed Rocco on a run. He beat Beauvais with a well-placed low shot to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

Cortland had a couple good chances in the second half. The best coming in the 70th minute when Anthony Marinello sent Chris McBride in on Conway off a quick restart. McBride fired his shot over the cross bar, keeping it a 1-0 lead for RIT.

RIT returns to action on Tuesday, September 11 when the Tigers take on #6 University of Rochester in the inaugural Hillside Community Shield at Sahlen's Stadium in downtown Rochester. Kick-off is at 7 pm
