Volleyball extends winning streak to six with undefeated weekend; Tigers defeat SUNY IT and Old Westbury Saturday

UTICA, NY -
The RIT Volleyball team (15-6) wrapped up the two-day SUNY IT Invitational by defeating the host Wildcats in four sets and Old Westbury in three at the SUNY IT Invitational. RIT claimed victories over Cazenovia and Sage College yesterday to go unbeaten on the weekend and have now won six straight matches. Senior middle hitter Cat Sullivan (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Against SUNY IT, the Tigers won the first two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-15 but SUNY IT rebounded to take a dramatic third set, 29-27. RIT claimed the victory with a 25-21 fourth set win. Three Tigers finished with double-figures in kills, led by Suzanne Jokajtys (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) with 16, while adding 15 digs, three aces, and three blocks. Katie Cooper (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) slammed 12 kills and dished out 20 assists and contributed 12 digs. Sara Martin (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) finished with 10 kills, seven digs and three aces. Freshman Taylor Harkness (Batavia, NY/Batavia) added 29 assists and 12 digs and Sullivan had eight kills.  

In the finale, RIT dispatched of Old Westbury in three sets by scores of 25-13, 25-20, and 25-14. Every active member saw time in the match and ten players recorded at least one kill with Jokajtys again leading the charge with 10. Cooper led the team with 19 assists while Bethany Davis (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) and Audrey DiPoala (Victor, NY/Victor) led with six digs each. The Tigers hit .448 in the first set and .330 for the match.

The Tigers return to action on Tuesday evening at Nazareth at 7 p.m. The two teams met at the RIT Invitational on Sept. 15 and RIT came away victorious, 3-0.
