TROY, NY -- The RIT (6-4-0, 2-1-0 Liberty League) women's soccer team was shut out by Rensselaer (
7-3-0, 3-0-0 Liberty League) in Liberty League action from Troy, New York on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers scored three second half goals en rout to the win.
After a scoreless first half in which both teams controlled portions of the play, Kate Edwards scored on a rebound in the 52nd minute for a 1-0 Rensselaer lead. Edwards one-timed a loose ball from approximately eight yards out past Tigers goalkeeper
Amanda Murray (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls). Murray initially made a save on a Taylor Korytko drive but could not control the ball and Edwards put it in for her second of the season.
Sandy Kirk made it a 2-0 lead in the 70th minute when she took a drop pass from Giana Abballe and scored from eight yards out on the right side, past Murray toward the far post.
Nine minutes later, Korytko, added a goal, her fourth of the season, off a pass from junior Alex Shaw to make it 3-0 Rensselaer.
Steph Vargas earned her second consecutive shutout, finishing with two saves. Murray took the loss, making three saves.
RIT returns to action on Wednesday, October 3 when the Tigers face William Smith at 4 pm in Geneva, New York.
