Volleyball Dominates First Day of SUNY IT Invitational

UTICA, NY -
The RIT volleyball team (13-6) dominated the first day of the SUNY IT Invitational. The Tigers defeated Cazenovia and Sage College in three sets and have now won four straight matches.

RIT had little trouble with Cazenovia in the opener, winning by scores of 25-21, 25-6, and 25-15. Katie Cooper (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) paced the Tigers with 11 kills and a .435 hitting percentage while adding 12 assists, three digs and two blocks.Cat Sullivan (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman) posted eight kills and three blocks and Suzanne Jokajtys (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) added six kills, and five digs in her return to action after a five match absence due to illness. Taylor Harkness (Batavia, NY/Batavia) dished out 19 assists and chipped in five digs and three blocks. Bethany Davis (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) posted a team-high 14 digs for RIT who hit .305 for the match with six aces.

Against Sage, the Tigers won by scores of 25-18, 25-22, and 25-17. Sara Martin (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) slammed 14 kills to lead the offensive attack and had three aces and four digs. Sullivan finished with eight kills and a .667 hitting percentage and Harkness dished out 20 assists. Cooper had another solid all-around match with six kills, 16 assists, 11 digs, and two aces.

RIT will look to extend its winning streak on Saturday when they take on the host Wildcats at 11 a.m. and then Old Westbury at 1 p.m.
